The Porsche 718 models are exemplary when it comes to driving performance, aesthetics, and an affordable price. They consist of the Porsche Cayman, which offers intuitive handling and a striking design, and the Porsche Boxster, which is the perfect blend of a fun convertible and an exceptionally agile sports car. The showdown between these two driving machines is one that proves to have almost nothing between them.
The Cayman and the Boxster are identical in most of their specifications. From stationary, both models can accelerate to 62 mph in a blistering 4.9 seconds, with both models able to reach a top speed of 170 mph. Their automatic transmission and 300 BHP ensure an easy, yet powerful driving experience, capable of fuelling anyone’s driving ambitions. Their petrol-fuelled 2-liter turbocharged engines provide the comfort needed on an urban or longer journey, but also the devastating power to conquer any incline that stands between you and your destination – the 718 models allow you to fear nothing.
Both models are very similar in terms of performance, with these two pint-sized monsters having a very limited number of differences. The Boxster possesses a convertible fabric hood which not only completes the sleek silhouette typical of this exhilarating sports car but also enables the fully automatic opening and closing of the roof at a single push of a button, even on the move at speeds of up to 31 mph. So, when the rain stops and the sun shines down over the city, it could be time for an extra helping of Vitamin D as you drive along.
On the other hand, the Cayman’s rigid hood and structure contribute to its enhanced stability at the limits of driving performance. The homely feel of a hard-top sports car will make you feel at ease behind the wheel, with nothing but the road crossing your mind.
The Cayman and Boxster also possess intimidatingly stylish rear spoilers that contribute to their already impressive sporty shapes, which automatically reduce lift by raising at 74 mph to provide even better roadholding performance.
With both cars also having Bluetooth connectivity, a high-resolution touch display, and the Porsche Communication Management System, it really comes down to how much one values a convertible driving experience and the aesthetics of the car.
The price of the 718 Cayman starts from £51,800 compared to the slightly higher price of the 718 Boxster, starting from £53,800. The Boxster comes in at a slightly higher starting price but also provides that unprecedented thrill of driving a convertible. However, being slightly cheaper and matching the driving performance of the Boxster, it is clear to see why it would be worth considering the Cayman as well for your next car.

To the extent that fuel and energy consumption or CO₂ values are given as ranges, these do not relate to a single, individual car and do not constitute part of the offer. Optional features and accessories can change relevant vehicle parameters such as weight, rolling resistance and aerodynamics which may result in a change in fuel or energy consumption and CO₂ values. Vehicle loading, topography, weather and traffic conditions, as well as individual driving styles, can all affect the actual fuel consumption, energy consumption, electrical range, and CO₂ emissions of a car.
