As the Wimbledon tennis tournament gets underway, here at Porsche Centre Swindon, we will be cheering for our new Porsche brand ambassador.
In early 2022 Porsche announced their latest Brand Ambassador, Emma Raducanu. The 19-year-old tennis sensation became a household name overnight after a remarkable run of victories in the summer of 2021, including her record-breaking Grand Slam at the infamous US Open. As the first female British tennis player to win a grand slam since Virginia Wade in 1977, Emma is a role model to many. In 2021 she was voted the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and dubbed the Newcomer of the Year by the World Tennis Association. In 2022, Emma was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire for her services.
Emma’s remarkable work ethic and the inspiration she has provided to millions of people around the world, enthusing them to be driven by their dreams like her, embodies the ethos of the Porsche Brand and makes her the perfect ambassador. Did you know that Emma shares her passion for tennis with a love of motorsport?
What do you think came first – your passion for motorsports or tennis?
“I actually think the first thing was my passion for motorsports. I was doing both at the same time, but then I had to choose one or the other on my weekends. Back then, the tennis tournaments would only happen at the weekends, so I went along that track. But the adrenaline that I got from motorsports was actually the highlight of my week.”
How did you first uncover your love for motorsports?
“As a six-year-old girl, going karting made me feel different from other girls, and even boys, in a positive way. I felt cool and had so much fun once I started to get good at it. Motocross was then a step up from go karting. What kid doesn’t like getting dirty in the mud? It was a new skill that required a level of coordination and balance that most adults don’t have! The acceleration and deceleration gave me such an adrenaline rush.”
When asked about being a Porsche Brand Ambassador, Raducanu commented: "Being a Brand Ambassador for Porsche means a lot to me. Porsche is a brand that fascinated me as a kid. It’s really important for me to align with partners and brands that I really feel passionate about and that I identify with. Porsche is the perfect fit."
The Porsche Centre Swindon Team wish Emma the best of luck at Wimbledon! Porsche is a brand for those whose dreams keep them awake. If you, too, are driven by your dreams, you are one of us.
